Cynthia Vandenbor

Cynthia VandenBor (1973) lives and works in Rotterdam and mainly focuses on painting (pop) surreal bird women.

The 'bird woman' is a strange appearance that is nevertheless sensual, elegant and feminine.

With her bird women, Cynthia portrays the dualism in humans. The bird woman exists between two worlds, the world of freedom and conscious manifestation and the world of bondage and limitations.

Because no matter how much a person aspires to absolute freedom, he is limited by culture, upbringing, etc., but ABOVE ALL by his own limiting thoughts and beliefs.

The bird woman is apparently free but appearances are deceiving because this lady may have feathers but she has no wings that can make her fly.

Although the work often conceals a philosophical thought, for Cynthia the decorative character and the image itself are of the utmost importance.
In addition to painting, she gives them more reason to exist by also displaying them three dimensional.
